WFCO Secures Judgment and Permanent Injunction in Patent Infringement Case

Federal court grants default judgment in patent infringement and false advertising case

ELKHART, Indiana – September 3, 2026 – WFCO Technologies has secured a federal court judgment in its patent infringement and false advertising case against Kunshan Jinhui New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., doing business as Bestrenogy.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana granted Cheng USA, Inc.’s Motion for Default Judgment and entered a permanent injunction against the defendant. Cheng USA does business as Arterra Distribution and WFCO Technologies. The case included claims for direct and induced infringement of U.S. Patent No. 12,113,377, along with false advertising claims under the Lanham Act.

The ‘377 Patent covers technology used in WFCO’s Auto-Detect battery charging system, which identifies the type of battery being charged and adjusts the charging profile accordingly.

The case centered on a Bestrenogy converter-charger sold under the WF-9855 model designation. WFCO alleged that the product infringed its patented charging technology and closely copied its WF-9855-AD converter-charger. The product also used similar product identification, labeling, company contact information and certification-related markings.

“We invest a great deal of time and engineering resources into developing our products, and we have an obligation to protect that work,” said Bobby Raatz, Vice President of Operations. “In this case, our concern went beyond the patented technology. The similarities in the product, labeling and identifying information created the potential for customers to believe they were purchasing a WFCO product. We felt it was important to address both issues.”

In its findings and recommendation, the Court determined that the requirements for default judgment were satisfied on the patent infringement and false advertising claims. The District Court adopted the recommendation in its entirety, granted the default judgment and adopted the proposed permanent injunction. The Clerk was directed to enter judgment for Cheng USA and close the case.

The injunction prohibits the defendant from further infringement of the patented technology and restricts the use of names, identifying information and other representations that could cause purchasers to believe its products are affiliated with WFCO.

WFCO will continue to monitor e-commerce marketplaces and take appropriate action when products infringe its intellectual property or are marketed in a manner that creates confusion with genuine WFCO products.
